LOCALS: James Sawyer

8 April 2014  |

In this week's LOCALS feature we catch up with James Sawyer from Surrey along with his sweet Specialized Demo built up with his dream spec of components.

Name: James Sawyer
Location: Surrey, UK
Job: Director of Disaster Management
Bike: Specialized Demo 8 2013

How long have you been riding?
Since I was 16 so 23 years!!

How often do you ride?
I ride on my commute every day during the week but on my mountain bike at least once a week. Winter I focus on trail riding, but come March the DH fun starts!

What bike are you currently riding and talk us through your set up?
Its a Specialized Demo. Ive been saving and building it up for over a year. Its got a cane creek rear shock and the new fox 40 air fork. Its got a lot of bling on it in terms of carbon cranks and saint gear but its my pride and joy so I thought I would take longer and save up for the bits I really wanted. It weighs about 37lbs which is about as light as I would want to go.

What types of riding do you normally do?
I prefer DH but there is virtually no scene near me so mix up trail and then DH when I can get the car off my wife!

What was the last new bit of gear on your bike?
The final piece of the puzzle was the HT pedals which are amazing and insanely light.

What's your favourite part on your bike?
The suspension is amazing on this new bike but also the frame is a bit smaller than my last bike which has made all the difference. Don't make me choose, its all hand picked!

What are your local trails?
I ride a lot in the surrey hills but when I'm on the DH bike its Aston Hill, Rogate and a monthly pilgrimage to cwm carn and forest of dean uplifts.
